This morning I decided (on a whim) to do my hair. Admittedly, it's been a couple of weeks since I've attempted anything more ambitious than the top half in a ponytail. I've got better things to do with my time (like dishes, diapers, cooking, cleaning...you know the drill).
Anyway, I stuck Davey in his bouncy seat and got busy with the velcro rollers. Davey's seen me in them before. And honestly, it really has only been a couple of weeks. But I turned around and THE LOOK HE GAVE ME....well, I didn't think I'd be getting those kind of looks until he at least hit kindergarten.
He'd look at my head, look at my face, look at every single curler, look at my face, look at my curlers....and then the little rat BURST OUT LAUGHING.
Just you wait kid. When your meagre peach fuzz matures into hair, I'm gonna give you the best girl "do" you've ever seen. And you KNOW I'll be using THOSE pictures as blackmail...

The Many Faces of David Andrew
I love taking pictures of Davey in the car. There's something about the lighting when he's in the car - the way I can take a million pictures of him and he can't really move anywhere - how I can get up close and personal without him noticing - it just works for me.
Here are just a few of Davey's many faces...

Ashlie had an easter egg hunt at school today. Here she is modelling her new hair, new bunny ears hat and face paint for Davey and Auntie Andrea

So, a few blogs ago I told you all about our sleep dilemna. Time for a report. The first night it took two hours of letting him cry. The second night it took about half an hour. Tonight...not even twenty minutes. I'm hoping daddy has him totally trained and that I can then try my hand at putting him to bed...or else when Daddy goes to San Diego for a week next month I'm going to undo all the good work Daddy and David have done...

Another before and after story...

This picture was taken in early December (best picture I could find of Dave - he's like me, he doesn't do posed pictures. Every picture I have of him he's goofing off!) From left to right, Rob, Dad, Dave.

What a difference a haircut makes!! This is Dave tonight. I arrived at mum's house this morning and my formerly long haired baby brother was this handsome, sophisticated young man. Now I really feel old! Hair cut courtesy of my very talented sister (who was responsible for Andrew's transformation too...she should have her own TV show!!) This Davey is a business major at Kwantlen, a very talented musician AND one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. You can tell all that from looking at this picture though, can't you?!!

Sleep much????

I remember a conversation I had the first week in November with another new mom at my church. Her son is two weeks older than Davey.
She asked me if Davey was awake much during the day. I remember just after I answered her thinking, "Oh no! Now I've jinxed it. He's never going to sleep anymore." But before my head could stop my mouth, my mouth had said, "oh no. All Davey ever does is sleep. In fact, I have a hard time waking him up for feedings. I'm looking forward to the day he starts being awake more so I can see more of his personality." FAMOUS LAST WORDS.
Sometime around Christmas he started sleeping for about six hours straight. I said it was my Christmas present. Because you see, Davey doesn't nap much. Lately I've gotten him into a routine. He'll use his mid-morning feed as nap time (like I said an earlier post, he's efficient). He'll have a nap in the afternoon (if I drive him to sleep). But since he got sick two weeks ago, he WILL NOT go to sleep at night. Oh, he's tired all right. He'll fall asleep eating. He'll fall asleep in the car. He'll fall asleep in daddy's arms while daddy bounces him. But the second you try to put him down in his crib, he's WIDE awake.
Out of desperation (and partly because we've both been sick and exhausted) I've been letting him sleep on me. Sitting up on the couch, with him lying across my chest. You don't sleep too well like that. In fact, we're getting so crabby, we've been thinking of getting marriage counselling.
So this afternoon, Andrew wrote out a new schedule for Davey and inserted where we'd like him to fall asleep. And though we've always been adverse to it, we're going to try the "let him cry in his crib if you have to, but don't pick him up" mode of getting him to sleep. Andrew's going to let me go to the grocery store so I don't have to be here to hear it. We start tonight.
And so far today, everything has gone to schedule. The eating, the napping...and at 6 pm we went out for a walk. With Davey in the back pack so he wouldn't fall asleep - in fact, I was thinking the stimulation might wear him out so he'll go to bed easier at 9 (the time we decided wasn't overly ambitious for getting him to bed.) As you can see, the walking plan worked real well. We'll let you know how the rest of the night goes....
