Happy Canada Day!!

Well after a LONG weekend of beaching, we held a family conference last night and decided that on the last day of this lovely long weekend we would not go to the beach. Shocking I know! Instead we went to the Chilliwack Heritage Park to enjoy the city sponsored festivities.

We skipped the pancake breakfast and showed up just before 11 am...just in time for the kids' activities. There was a plethora of bouncy castles, fire trucks, even a monster truck. But in the end our kids just wanted to colour.

We stopped in the food tent for hot dogs and some dancing.

We thought we might take a ride on the rotary train, but I asked a few people how it worked, and it sounded a little ratty and disorganized (wait for the train to show up and push your way to the front of the line. Seriously, that's what they told us). So we strolled back to the Atchelitz Thresherman's Association grounds. Now they don't have a website so let me just put my plug in here. When I was a kid we lived next door to their grounds. They have a whole town set up in frontier times. A museum. TONS and TONS of what one of the ATA members told us was "a bunch of old guys and their toys". It's really very interesting and the kids loved it way better than the bouncy castles and pop corn...

Here's the town...set up in frontier times. A lot of them are open for you to peek into. A General Store, a Library/Archives, a Blacksmith...

The Blacksmith has this outside his store. It's meant as a bit of a joke (he hasn't got all his ducks in a row), but apparently it's a kid magnet.

This took me back to MooseCreek and the Presbyterian Church we went to there.

Inside the General Store.

Back home, Davey was playing with Rain and Dryden downstairs. When their mom came to get them, this was what surprised us from inside:

He came outside and I asked for "your winning smile". This is what I got.
