The Week in Review

This is actually only Wednesday to Saturday, but I seriously can't remember back past that.

On Wednesday Kathi looked after Davey for the afternoon while me, Andrew and Elisabeth all went to Vancouver. We decided to try driving Lougheed Highway all the way to Hastings. Never having done it before and with no map in the car. Twenty minutes before Andrew's appointment we were somewhere over by Science World. And Andrew is no help when you're lost. He's hopeless at making decisions at the best of times (which now that I think about it is probably why once he has made a decision it's impossible to get him to rethink it.)

Anyway, we eventually found what we were looking for, and Elisabeth and I settled into our favorite coffee shop (on Hastings and Boundary anyway) for lunch.

This little coffee shop is owned by an Italian family - mother and I think two sons. It does coffee and lunch fare, has a HUGE television which is always blaring shows like the Simpsons or King of Queens and a little dance floor. So on Wednesday Elisabeth and I were happily watching That Seventies Show when a group of four showed up for Salsa lessons. Elisabeth loved watching them. She insisted on standing the whole time and trying to groove along with them. It was hilarious, but totally distracting for the 'class'. So I eventually decided we'd move outside and enjoy some sun instead.

On our way back to Langley we had another appointment but some time to kill in between. So we stopped at the new Starbucks near the highway and gave Elisabeth second lunch.

She's a little wired from the caffeine here!

I think it was Thursday that I met Kathi at a park near her house to let the kids run off some energy.

Today we decided to grab some food and go for a drive. We ended up at this Elementary school, it has the most awesome grounds. I guess a lot of newer schools are sharing their grounds with neighborhood parks (awesome idea!) so this is Andrew and Elisabeth sitting on the side of the school parking lot, but the park behind them has baseball diamonds and another playground (love the trees!)
And this is the playground immediately beside the school.

Elisabeth loved that there were so many things for her to stand beside. She's really into standing these days, and has started being more adventurous and trying to walk along them with one hand.

See, one handed standing and even a little wave!

Meanwhile, Davey is totally into climbing everything. He's pretty timid though and will often wait for us to show him how to do something before he'll try it himself. He recently tried a bendy slide (one of those corkscrew types) and it scared him a little so for the past few weeks he would only go down small straight slides. Today I went down the corkscrew one at this park and after that I had a hard time getting him to leave the slide!

While we were at one of the playgrounds, two women showed up with about eight nine year olds and a toddler. The seven year olds swarmed the playground and were not at all careful about our kids. I know that we have to share the playgrounds, but I was really irritated that these moms wouldn't even try to get these kids to be careful around two smaller ones. Davey was super excited to have that many kids to play with, but it was obvious they would just trample him so we had to leave.

It was a beautiful day for a drive and a tour of a new park. Plus, we met some really nice people while we were out so it was a good day! SO loving the sunshine!
