Long time no blog. I'm turning into one of those bloggers who only updates once a week.I
On Friday night we joined a group of friends in Abbotsford for the 18th Annual Tree lighting. Right away there were TONS of people walking around . As we approached the area they had the roads closed off and booths set up. Almost right away we were accosted by a friendly young fellow who told us about the free family portraits. Well, you can never have too many family pictures so we cued up and waited. By the time our entire group had their pictures done about 20 minutes had gone by.
Well then while we were waiting for popcorn and balloon animals, Santa arrived. This is where things got scary. We were right at the top of the road, we hadn't even gotten past the first two booths. But there were so many people that there really as no where to go. All of a sudden people with reflective vests came and right behind them a band and behind them Rudolph and Santa and the people in the vests were trying to clear the road for the band and vehicles, but there were so many people there was no where to go. So I'm already standing with my back pinned against a tent post, with the stroller pulled right up and digging into my stomach. Andrew is standing sideways in the crush of people . What made it really scary was that the vest people were acting a bit panicked and pushing the crowd but the band and the trucks weren't slowing down. It almost felt like a stampede. Obviously we survived though.
After that we looked down the road. It was still about two blocks to get anywhere close to the tree and the entire road and sidewalk was so full of people there was no way we would even be able to get our stroller through the crush. That was when we decided maybe it would be a good idea to leave.
Obviously the kids were a bit upset that their fun evening was ruined. So we decided to stop at Castle Fun Park and play some mini golf.
We never made it past the toddler section.
(this car was called "Night Ride".)
Anyway, despite the crowds and the initial disappointments, we had a great evening. I'm learning that it is very good to be flexible and not hold to expectations. Hmn, I should start applying that in other areas of my life too!! :oP
Last week I decided to let the kids help me decorate a Christmas house. You see, we have a bit of a tradition where the kids all decorate houses with Gross papa and it's a bit competitive. So I decided to let them practice.
I did the icing and Davey did the decorating. Tink just ate candy.
I may have done the front.
But Davey did a pretty awesome job on the roof.
oh, and Tink's hair has been growing like mad lately. She still can't really have pretties in it, but you can tell it's there!!

tink looks like she's comin' off a sugar high in that last picture...'give me more sugar and no one will get hurt..."
hah hah hah. that's about exactly what it was like there too!! Luckily I've persuaded BOTH of them that fruit leather is better than candy. Still sugar, but hopefully slightly better for them...
